Our StaffDr. Alfred H. Brandon, MD
Alfred H. Brandon, M.D., is a graduate in Biological Sciences from the University of Chicago. He subsequently did post-graduate work on the physical chemistry of complex carbohydrates in arthritic processes in the biochemistry department of Dr. Ward Pigman at the New York Medical College, from which he received a M.S. in Biochemistry. He was a visiting graduate student in the Department of Psychiatry at Guy's Hospital in London. He received a Cand. Med. degree from the Catholic University of Louvain and a M.D. from the University Libre of Brussels in Belgium. His internship was served at the Emma Kinder Hospital in Pediatric Oncology and the Antoni Van Leewenhoek Hospital in Gynecologic Oncology in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Dr. Brandon also interned at the Share Zedek Hospital. He completed a residency in Family Practice at Brookdale Hospital in New York and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice. He subsequently completed a residency in Radiation Oncology at Jackson Memorial Hospital and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology with board certification in Radiation Oncology. Dr. Brandon served for 10 years as full-time faculty in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center. During that period at the Sylvester Center he developed treatment programs in permanent seed and High Dose Rate prostate brachytherapy. He was responsible for the clinical applications of the 3D conformal prostate cancer program at the University of Miami conducted in conjunction with the RTOG national study on dose escalation. He worked extensively in Genito-Urinary and Gynecological Oncology and was also involved in numerous High and Low Dose Rate Gynecologic brachytherapy applications. With the support of the Nucletron Corporation from the Netherlands he was a visiting lecturer in High Dose Rate Cervix brachytherapy at the University of Rome. He was also responsible for the treatment of brain tumors with Gamma Knife radiosurgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital and more recently continues that activity in the Department of Neurosurgery at Doctor's Hospital in Coral Gables. Since June of 1999 he has conducted a private Radiation Oncology practice at the Cedars Medical Center in Miami (web site: www.alfredbrandon.com) where he has further developed an active program in High Dose Rate prostate brachytherapy. At the Cedars Medical Center he was involved in the testing and improvement in design of a new High Dose Rate prostate brachytherapy template in conjunction with the Nucletron Corporation. In September of 2001, he opened a private practice in Radiation Oncology with an active interest in Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) in collaboration with his partner, Dr. Hoke Han, at their new radiation treatment facility in Hollywood, Florida.
