Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)Breakthrough Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) Technology at Hollywood Radiation OncologyHollywood Radiation Oncology is proud to announce the availability of Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) for patient treatment. This new system uses an advanced and highly precise stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) technology called ExacTrac X-Ray 6D. It enables patients to be treated with a significantly reduced risk of radiation exposure to uninvolved surrounding healthy tissue. Hollywood Radiation Oncology is the first facility in South East Florida to have this state-of-the-art technology. ExacTrac X-Ray 6D, a clinically proven automated system, utilizes high-resolution X-rays to pinpoint tumor sites seconds before treatment. It then robotically corrects any patient set-up errors. This IGRT technology increases the accuracy and precision of treatments by adjusting the radiation beam to focus on the exact position of the target tumor inside the patient. Additionally, because of its improved targeting, ExacTrac X-Ray 6D allows for more aggressive treatment of cancerous cells. The enhanced accuracy of this treatment system will benefit a wide range of malignancies including prostate, lung, intra-abdominal, pelvic, CNS and head and neck sites. The IGRT system is an important addition to our radiotherapy facility. It will allow the treatment of tumors that are inoperable either because of their location or the patient's overall condition. As a consequence we hope to improve clinical outcomes and further minimize the risk of side effects. VideoClick on an image below to watch the video. Requires Windows Media Player.
